New NSX in Gran Turismo 5

Footage of the new Honda NSX in GT5. Enjoy! Although purists (including me) have to swallow hard at the thought of an NSX using a 4wd hybrid drivetrain, it does have some interesting tech… Continue reading

Saab gone…

This image is taken from sniffpetrol.com.

Saab – even in the GM years – was a good manufacturer and it’s a shame that it is no more.

Keep your Playstation cool

Staying on live timing with in-car view on reduces heat

In my day job I run an IT business and have worked with servers for 15 years or more, so I’m a little obsessive about heat generation and management :)

A good tip for those long B-Spec endurance races is to switch to in-car view and leave the live-timing screen up. This gives your PS3 a much lower graphics load, thereby saving heat generation and electricity usage (and a small amount of money). This also means that if you are doing something else such as watching TV while Gran Turismo 5 is running, there is less chance of the cooling fan kicking in to max and disturbing you.

B-Spec – Extreme – Formula Gran Turismo World Championship

Racing became much more interesting when Monza introduced the narcolepsy cloud

Racing became much more interesting when Monza introduced the narcolepsy cloud

This post covers the B-Spec event in Extreme – the Formula Gran Turismo World Championship.

Previously I’d found this championship extremely difficult. The first track – Fuji – was so difficult to keep my racer reliable, he’d always crash on the same corner every bloody lap. Eventually though I twigged onto some setup principles and nailed this series of races very easily from there on out. So, here’s a list of general setup principles and a quick run-down of each race: Continue reading

GT5 A-8 Licence Test

What a pain!

This is the Schumacher S curve in some crappy BMW. For over an hour I was stuck 0.004 off the required time for gold.

After much digging, I achived a gold time with 5 minutes of taking these steps.

  1. Turn off TCS! In the A-8 test, the TCS system at the default level 5 saps too much power from the drivewheels.
  2. Watch the video I found on YouTube – the line into the entry of the corner got me the rest of the time I needed.GT5 A-8 Licence gold time

GT5 Money

I’ll happily admit, I’m struggling for cash in GT5 at the moment. GT5 money can be extremely hard to come by when you look at the price tags of some of the exotica. However, there are a few tips that I wish I’d known at the start!

  1. In the Supercar Festival of the Professional Series, the Daytona race is 17,300 credits for under 3 minutes of driving. A Corvette mildly tuned can win it, its a very quick way to make some money.
  2. The Kubelwagon you win early on sells for 75,000 GT5 credits and if you really miss it you can always look in the museum at it… ;)
  3. Once you are level 17 and have a 500+bhp turbocharged car, go for the High Speed Ring race in the Turbo series of Expert – 3 laps for 36,000 GT5 credits. Less messing with the menus and starting again makes this a better money spinner later on.

I’ve read about the birthday cheat in GT5 – personally I think that’s a great way to get your account suspended later on as it crosses the line from good play into cheating the system. A free car on your birthday is nice, there’s no need to abuse the system in my view.

A different article will be posted on using B-Spec to earn cash later on.

GT5 Hints and tips

Ferrari 458 taken in GT5

Ferrari 458 with aero mods

I’m about 40% through GT5 now – so I thought I’d post some GT5 hints and tips to help you get started in GT5.

  1. Before you do anything – go for the B license tests. In GT5, completing all of the B license tests with all golds gives you 3 cars and lots of experience. None of the B tests are particularly hard. The all-gold reward car is the Tommy Kaira ZZ-S ’00. In standard spec, this car produces 188bhp, is MR and weighs only 690kg! Really easy to drive, this car is able to win the Sunday Cup and the World Compact races.
  2. In A-Spec the Tous France Championnat series is easily won by the Hommel Berlinette R/S Coupe ’99 – This car is a very rare MR car made in France (Check for it in the used car dealership) – Mine was over-tuned to 236bhp / 864kg and easily dispatches the hatchback competition :)
  3. In the GT5 Professional Series, you will be tempted to go for the top-spec Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670 – save yourself some cash by getting a Gallardo LP 560-4 ’08. This car when tuned (and it’s over 100,000 credits cheaper than the Murc’) is more than enough to win the Lamborghini Exclusive, Supercar Festival and Gran Turismo Wold Championship races in Professional and the Tuning Car and Gallardo Trophy races in Expert.

More to come!
